Reece Breslin, 17, is enrolled with the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy at Leicester College. His air gun accessory business idea means he’s one of six students from academies across the country picked as a finalist in this year’s National Entrepreneur of the Year award.

The six finalists will pitch their ideas to Mr Jones and an expert panel in Marlow, in Buckinghamshire, on June 3.

The winning entrepreneur will get £5,000 investment prize money.

Reece, from Market Harborough, said: “It feels amazing to be given the opportunity to pitch to Peter Jones himself.

“I spent my childhood watching him on television and now I’m pitching my own business to him – it’s all very surreal.

“I’m so excited. Winning the funding would get me a few steps closer to making my dream a reality. This £5,000 could change my life.”

Reece’s product, the Pellpoint Backstop, is an air gun target board designed to make the pellets crumble as they hit it – this means that the metal pellets will not re-bound and injure people or damage property.

At the moment, many air gun targets are made of a material which the metal pellets can re-bound from. Reece said in time he hopes to develop more accessories in line with the Pellpoint brand.

“The problem I’m solving is an issue nearly all air gun users come across,” he said.

“Being a keen shooter myself, I have identified a gap in the market and I’m confident my product will succeed. I’m passionate about making the sport safer.”

To get to the final, Reece had to submit detailed business and financial plans outlining his ideas, his progress and hopes for the future .

Mr Jones said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing our six finalists in person.

“The quality of submissions we’ve received has been outstanding and picking just six to go through was a real challenge.

“The high standard is testament to the depth of entrepreneurial talent that we have across the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy network.”

Last year’s winner, David Humpston, has gone on to launch an action video production company and has become the youngest person to get a Virgin StartUp loan.
