Childcare & Education

Childcare and Education

If you are passionate about working with children, our childcare courses can provide you with the specialist training and hands-on experience required for a successful career within this sector. To be a success in the childcare industry it is essential that you have a professional qualification within your portfolio of qualifications – this shows employers that you have the skills and confidence to deal with a whole range of situations that you may encounter when working with children.

We are one of the first college’s to offer the new T level in Education and Childcare.

The new level 3 childcare course is now the T-level in Childcare and Education, using the Early Years Pathway.  This is suitable for anyone wanting to work with children from birth to 16 years of age. It opens doors into careers such as nursery nurse, specialist play work, special needs assistant and holiday firms as children’s representatives. The qualification also comes with UCAS points making it suitable for those wanting to go to university for Primary Education courses.

Who are Leicester College's childcare and education courses for?

We offer a range of full and part-time courses. All learners, on successful completion of a childcare course, will achieve a professional qualification that will enable them to progress into employment, higher education, or further training.

Our courses range from entry level through to level 5. The courses include elements of caring for children and young people and working with children in different settings. We have specialist support courses which are aimed at learners who want to become a teaching assistant in a school environment. We also have work-based qualifications that include units of child development, child health, how to observe children and more. Our level 5 course is the Foundation Degree in Children, Families and Community Health. This exciting course combines both work placement and study to help develop learners’ personal and study skills.

If you are aged 16 to 19 and don’t yet have your English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above, these subjects will be an essential part of your study programme. All courses are designed to give you the skills and knowledge needed to work in the childcare industry.

Further Information

We have close links with a number of local childcare organisations, allowing you to put into practice the skills you have learnt on your course. This experience looks great on your CV too. Alternatively, there may be an opportunity to work in one of our own nurseries on campus, which have both been graded as Outstanding by Ofsted inspections.

All learners enrolled on Childcare courses must have an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, have good attendance records and be able to provide positive references.
