16 to 19 tuition fund

Leicester College will use the 16-19 tuition fund to support young people needing extra tuition to help them achieve and exceed their potential. The college will identify eligible students early in the study programmes as follows:–

  • Those who have not achieved a grade 4 in English and/or maths in the first instance. After this, those who have not achieved grade 5 in the relevant subject can be provided tuition.
  • Those who have a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths, are from an economically disadvantaged background and would need catch-up support. These are defined as students from the 27% most economically deprived areas of the country based on the Index of Multiple Deprivation. Support will be provided to high-achieving students to help them achieve their potential.

The college will actively work with eligible students, including those with a specific learning need, to offer the most appropriate additional small group and one-to-one support in vocational and technical learning, and other relevant subjects, throughout the academic year, focussing on:-

  • Support for English and maths, both specific and general
  • Support for mental health and wellbeing issues that impact on the development of knowledge and skills
  • Pastoral engagement and support to help young people redevelop expected educational behaviours and attitudes, such as attendance, punctuality, organisational skills
  • Specific subject upskilling

A range of teaching and support staff, who have the appropriate skills and experience, will be used to ensure that all students can achieve and positively progress.
