The amount a student has to pay towards their study at Leicester College will depend on their personal circumstances and how the course they wish to study is funded. If you live outside of Leicester(shire) in a devolved local authority area you will not be eligible for funding for ESFA (Education and Skills Funding Agency) courses: Your local authority is responsible for funding courses. Please contact us for more information.
Further education courses (full and part time)
- There is no tuition or exam fee for students aged 16 to 18 (on August 31 of the year they start the course), who are a UK or qualifying EU resident.
- There is no tuition or exam fee for students who are in receipt of an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) and are aged 19-24 on August 31 of the year they start the course), who are a UK or qualifying EU resident.
- There is no tuition fee for students who are aged 19 (on August 31 of the year they start their course) and between 19-23 years old (by the start date of their chosen course/qualification) who are studying an eligable Entry or Level 1 qualification, and who are a UK or qualifying EU resident and don’t already have a level 2 qualification. You must declare your intention to progress onto a level 2 qualification to qualify for fee remission.
- There is no tuition fee for people aged 19-23 (on August 31 of the year they start the course) who are studying their first eligable full level 2 or 3 qualification, who are a UK or qualifying EU resident.
- There is no tuition fee for people who are in work (employed or self-employed) who earn up to £20,319 per annum and are studying up to and including a level 2 qualification.
- There is no tuition fee for people aged 19-23 (on August 31 of the year they start the course) who are unemployed and in receipt of eligible benefits** when studying an eligable Entry, Level 1, or Level 2 qualification, where the learner has already acheived a first full level 2.
- There is no tuition fee for people aged 24 or over, who are unemployed and in receipt of eligible benefits** whilst studying eligible courses/qualifications up to a level 2 qualification.
- For first full level 3 courses if you are aged 19 or over there may not be government funding available. You may be eligible to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan for the course fee. If the course is a full cost course there is no fee remission or loans available and you will have to meet the full cost of tuition fees.
- There is no tuition fee for unemployed dependents* of benefit claimants.
- There is no tuition fee for English and maths to GCSE level if you are over 16 and have left school, and haven’t got these qualifications at grades 9-4 (A*-C).
- English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) course fees are varied dependent on the number of hours studied.

**Job Seekers Allowance (JSA); Employment and Support Allowance (ESA); Universal Credit; Universal Credit, and their take-home pay as recorded on their Universal Credit statement (disregarding benefits) is less than £345 a month and in a JCP work related group; Unemployed and in receipt of other active State Benefit.
Access to higher education courses
