Additional Learning Support
At Leicester College we are committed to providing the highest standards of support to all students. The Additional Learning Support service provides advice and support to students with a range of disabilities, learning difficulties, and other long-term conditions that might affect their studies.
Our Additional Learning Support team is approachable and friendly, with specialist staff who offer advice and guidance for both current and prospective students. We provide a person-centred approach, tailoring support to suit your individual needs. This support might include the provision of in-class support, assistive technology, and referrals to other support services such as Learning Mentors, Careers Advisors, and Welfare.
We work in partnership with teaching staff, other internal services, and external organisations to help you to access all available opportunities. Our aim is to ensure that all of our students have a positive learning experience whilst studying at Leicester College. The support we offer is regularly reviewed and our aim, where possible, is to guide you towards independence in learning.
If you would like to be assessed for extra support, or feel you need equipment / resources to help you with your learning journey at college, please contact us on the details below and one of our Additional Support Coordinators will help you.
The Additional Learning Support team provide transition arrangements and events for prospective students who require extra support to help them prepare for starting college. We work closely with schools to identify students who require transition arrangements, however if you feel you would benefit from transition support due to your disability or learning difficulty please contact the Additional Support Coordinators using the contact details below.
Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP)
The Additional Learning Support team assist with processing applications for learners with EHCPs. If you have an EHCP and are applying for a mainstream course at Leicester College please contact the Additional Support Coordinators who will complete an initial assessment with you to ensure your support needs can be met.
While you are at college you will have an EHCP Annual Review that will allow local authorities to update your plans. They will be held in either the Autumn, Spring, or Summer term and you will be sent a letter confirming of the date and time of your Annual Review.
If you have had exam arrangements in the past you can contact the Additional Learning Support Service to advise us of these. Please note any exam arrangements for your exams at Leicester College will be based on your normal way of working in the classroom when you start studying with us. If exam arrangements are needed your tutors will refer you for assessment before concessions can be put in place.
