Leicester College to introduce new T Level technical-focused qualifications

Students, parents and teachers can find out more at virtual launch event on 1 October 2020

Leicester College will be introducing a new range of T Level courses at a virtual launch event for students from 9.30am to 3.30pm on 1 October 2020.

T levels are a new type of technical-focused qualification for students who want a vocationally-based qualification. A T Level Certificate will be equal to three A levels and Leicester College will be offering courses in four curriculum areas – Education and Childcare, Construction, Digital and Healthcare Science – from September 2021.

Designed by employers with The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education, these two-year qualifications combine classroom study and industry placements, giving students the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge for which employers are looking. Students who successfully pass all parts of their T Level will gain UCAS points, like A level students, which will allow them to go on to university.

Students who may be interested in taking a T Level course can visit the Leicester College Facebook or YouTube pages on 1 October to attend a series of sessions and find out all about the T level courses:
9:30 – Introduction to T levels
10:30 – Digital
11:30 – Healthcare Science
12:30 – The Employer Webinar
13:30 – Education and Childcare
14:30 – Construction
*The above schedule is subject to change

Gillian Keegan MP, Minister for Skills and Apprenticeships said: “It’s great that Leicester College will be joining pioneering colleges across the country to deliver our new T Levels from next year.

“T Levels are a game-changer, providing a high-quality technical alternative to A levels. The new qualifications, launched this month, have been created in collaboration with over 250 leading employers so students develop the skills they need to succeed.

“I’d urge all young people in the area to attend the virtual event to find out more about how T Levels can help to turbo-charge their future careers in a range of exciting industries.”

Anja Petterson, T Level coordinator at Leicester College added: “Leicester College is very proud to have been chosen to deliver the new T Level programmes and we are looking forward to welcoming the first students to benefit from these exciting new qualifications in 2021.”
