Four Leicester colleges in varsity sports day challenge

Four Leicester city colleges came together for varsity day, a day of competitions, to determine who is the best sports college in the city.

Players from Regent College, Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth College, Gateway College and Leicester College battled it out in a variety of sports.

IMG_0948More than 250 male and female students took part in matches in cricket, basketball, football, badminton , rugby, table tennis and volleyball.

Regent College won the most competitions and walked away with the Varsity 2015
Title stopping Gateway College claiming their third successive win. Leicester College won the prestigious sportsmanship award along with their men’s rugby and football titles.

Kay Searcy, from Leicester College, said: “Varsity is a great showcase for enrichment sport , celebrating the hard work done all year round in colleges.

“It allows an opportunity for non-elite students to take part in competitive sport and represent their college.

IMG_0975“The programme would not exist without the great support from the University of Leicester, the Leicester City School Sport Partnership and Leicestershire and Rutland Sport.”

Leicester College student Rihan Ullah said: “This is my third year taking part in the varsity programme. “Thoughout the year I take part in the inter-college indoor cricket league.

“Varsity is a great finale and showcase of this league. It is a great day to celebrate enrichment sport.”
