Rebecca Timson, an apprentice at Leicester College has been nominated for an award.

The new Apprenticeship Awards are aimed at recognising and rewarding exceptional people who make a real difference in the workplace and are nominated by their employers.

They will include eight different categories, including Apprentice Champion of the Year, Raising the Profile of Apprentices, Innovation in Apprenticeships, Outstanding Newcomer and Outstanding Contribution to Apprenticeships by an Employer.

The Awards will take place on Thursday 25 September 2014 at the College’s Freemen’s Park Campus.

Among those attending will be Rebecca Timson, who is a Reprographics Apprentice nominee.

She is employed at a carton manufacturing company Benson Box, and recently won a national design competition that was organised by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS).

Her winning T-shirt design for National Apprenticeship Week 2014 was printed onto promotional materials and distributed nationally.

In her own words she describes why she chose to be an apprentice.

She said: “I decided to go against the norm of applying to go to University as this didn’t appeal to me, I wanted to carry on learning and gaining skills from a college based environment.

“The apprenticeship has made me a more organised person and has made me have more motivation in achieving goals both in work and personal life.”

“I’m very excited about the awards and honoured to be nominated.”

Tracey Kinsley, Assistant Principal Employer Engagement said, “We felt it was time that we gave our apprentices some special recognition. We are aware of the contribution our apprentices make to the College and within their place of work. Many of our apprentices are also apprenticeship ambassadors so this is an exciting opportunity to celebrate their achievements.”

The deadline for nominations is Friday 11 July 2014 and nomination forms are available at Campus Information Centres, or by calling 0116 224 2240.

The winners will be announced at a celebratory awards evening in September 2014.
