William was among scores of entrants who entered the competition online.

The names of all those who answered the online competition question correctly were put into a prize draw and William was chosen as the lucky winner.

William has just begun his course this September for a Level 2 Diploma in Food Manufacture (Bakery) at Leicester College.

He was previously in the Royal Army for six years and had served in Afghanistan and Kenya. After he was medically discharged he decided he wanted to pursue further education and combine his love of cooking.

William was delighted to have won, as he currently does not own a computer.

He said: “I’m thrilled to have won an iPad. I haven’t got a laptop or a computer so this will be really handy for me, especially for my work at college.

“I can’t wait to download the apps. There is an app for Leicester College so that’s the first thing I am going to download on to my new iPad.”

He was awarded his prize by lecturer Jayne Talbot and Mark Wright, Programme Area Manager for Hospitality and Catering from Leicester College.

Mark Wright said: “I am really pleased for William. It is fantastic to see a mature learner returning to study being rewarded for putting extra effort in by entering a competition and winning. Well done William.”

William was not previously told about his win and was surprised during his class with presentation at the Freemen’s Park Campus
