Leicester College students GCSE success

Leicester College saw a significant rise in the GCSE pass rate this year.

While early reports on National results have suggested there has been a dip in the pass rate. Leicester College students have produced fantastic results, seeing an increase on the pass rate from last year.
The English GCSE pass rate increased by 25% and maths by 14% from last year’s results. This is an incredible result and we want to congratulate our learners for their hard work this year.

Lisa Armitage, Director for English and maths said:
“We are delighted to have seen such an increase in GCSE English and maths achievement. Leicester College is committed to providing opportunities for learners to continue developing their English and maths skills at all levels and this year’s GCSE results are testament to the hard work and commitment of our learners and teachers. It has been a pleasure to celebrate the success with our learners.”

The exam grading system was switched to a numerical grading system for English, English Literature and maths this year. In each of the three GCSE subjects – English, English literature and maths – a new top grade 9 has been created.

Some 3.2% of papers were awarded the highest grade in English literature, 2.2% in English language and 3.5% in maths.

Three students at Leicester College achieved a grade 9. Arezoo Pourkarimi and Qiuyan Liu achieved a 9 in mathematics and Rakshanda Khan achieved a grade 9 in English.

GCSE RESULTS 2017

Quiyan Liu said:
“I am shocked at my result!
“I decided to do my GCSE to give me a good foundation to apply for University. I was lacking academic qualification in the UK and I was advised by my tutor to complete my GCSE in maths as it would put me in strong position for a University place.
“I completed my GCSE English at Leicester College and decided to take my academic progression step by step. I am hoping to become a qualified Radiographer.”

Although FE Week reported national figures for older students resitting their maths GCSEs seeing a sharp fall of 5.1% in pass rate for maths but reported an increase in English pass rate as up 2.1 % from 2016, Leicester College are extremely proud to have seen an increase in both areas.
