The College has seen great results once again with a 93% pass rate in all subject areas.

Among the learners waiting patiently this morning for the results was Maariyah Seedat.

The 20-year-old from Glen Parva, enrolled on  A-level courses at Leicester College in English Language and Literature combined, History and Sociology.

As she nervously opened her envelope, she admitted she was slightly scared.

She achieved an A* in Sociology, A in English Language and Literature combined and a B in History.

She said: “I’m really happy with my results. My hard work has paid off and it’s been worth it. For two years I have worked towards this and I’m just so pleased. I can’t wait to ring my family and tell them results.

“For me, it’s been a 100 per cent positive experience. The course here has given me the confidence to believe in myself and has helped open doors for me.”

Maariyah has decided to stay on at Leicester College and is hoping to enrol on a Foundation Degree course which will be a stepping stone for her into a career in teaching.

After originally studying A-levels elsewhere, Maariyah  was left disillusioned by her college experience.

Since she enrolled at Leicester College she has said her whole “educational experience” has changed.

Sian Pierce, a 26-year-old A-level Physics learner returned to College after working as a professional Make-Up artist.

She achieved an A in Physics and has secured a place at the London School of Economics to study Maths and Economics in September this year.

She said: “I’ve had excellent support from my tutors I’ve had a wonderful time here at Leicester College.

After years of working in the make-up industry I wanted to come back to College and study. I’ve always thought if I do go to university now, I might not get the chance later , and now I’m on my way.”

Tim Durning was one of the first to arrive at Leicester College’s Abbey Park Campus this morning, ahead of the results being released.

He achieved triple B’s on his A-levels course in English Language and Literature combined Psychology and History at Leicester College.

The 24-year-old from Wymeswold, near Loughborough, left school at 16 with his GCSE qualifications. He said that at the time he was eager to progress into the working world.

After being made redundant in his role as an administrator, Tim Durning decided to return to education.

After opening his envelope, he said he was stunned for a few minutes. He said: “I’m absolutely delighted with my results. The adrenaline is rushing in now. I’m really proud of my results. I’m so glad I came back and did my A-levels.

Tim is now planning on going to university next year.

Friends Hannah Williams, Paige Smith-Palmer and Allie-Jade Mann arrived together to receive their results.

Hannah, who’s 18 years-old and from Humberstone, achieved triple A’s in Psychology, Sociology and English Literature and Language combined.

She said: “I was speechless when I opened my results, I just couldn’t believe I was seeing three A’s staring back at me.

Paige, also 18 and from Humberstone, was overjoyed to learn she had achieved an A* in Sociology, an A in Psychology and a B in History.

She said she was shocked: “I wasn’t expecting such great results. It’s all come as a bit of shock now. I’m really happy, I think I need to ring my mum now and I’m sure she’ll start crying with happiness.”

Allie-Jade received an A* in Art and Design, B in Graphics and a C in Photography.

She said: “I’m shocked too. I really wasn’t expecting my results to be this good. I’m really pleased and I couldn’t be happier.”

Both Paige and Allie-Jade are planning to study at University but want to decide through the clearing process but both are more certain about a bright future ahead of them.

Principal of Leicester College, Verity Hancock, said: “I am really pleased for our learners and staff, who have worked so hard to achieve these results.

“There are so many individual success stories every year here at Leicester College and it is particularly heartening to see people achieving qualifications that we know will enable them to progress to university level courses either with us or other institutions, or alternatively to further training or into their chosen career.

“I would like to thank our learners for their dedication and hard work and wish them all the best for their future.”
