Course Overview

The BSc Construction Management (top-up) program is to facilitate those who have already achieved 240 Higher National Diploma (HND) credits on any of Pearson’s BTEC Higher National Construction pathways.

The program is run in partnership with and accredited by De Montfort University (DMU), students will be affiliated as both DMU and Leicester College students and have access to facilities for both academic institutions. The program will provide the final 120 credits needed to gain a Bachelor’s degree (360 credits) in construction management.

The course has also further been accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and awards students with initial membership upon graduating.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

First-year modules, subject to change:

1. Research Methodologies (EPDA3812) – Understand research methods, techniques, and requirements in undertaking a research project (see Construction Management Dissertation)
2. Corporate Management Finance (EPDA3810) – Develop a knowledge and understanding of financial routes in funding construction projects, setting budgets, cash flow, balancing accounts, and financial statements.
3. Sustainable Innovation (EPDA3809) – An in-depth look into current and new sustainable innovational concepts in improving the construction industry’s green credentials.
4. Contract Practice Administration (EPDA3814) – An overview of types of construction contracts, applications, requirements, and associated administrative duties.

Year 2

Second year modules, subject to change:

1. Project Management (EPDA2813) – Understand the role of a project manager within the construction industry and the importance of project managers in the successful running of a construction project.
2. Construction Management Planning (EPDA3811) – An overview of management and planning requirements in the running of construction projects.
3. Construction Management Dissertation (EPDA3815) – Dissertation research project with a focus on the construction industry sector.

Entry Requirements

Higher National Diploma (HND) credits on any of Pearson’s BTEC Higher National Construction pathways. Merit and above preferred.

How you will be assessed

You will be assessed through pre-set assignments, case studies, individual projects and reports, timed assessments, and presentations, culminating with a final year dissertation project.
