Course Overview

Our Launch Pad course is designed to help support young people gain the qualifications and skills they need to progress onto the next phase of their education.
The course is 3 days per week with 2 hours per week of home study. Whilst with us you will work towards achieving your Functional Skills in Maths and English. We cover entry level 3 and up to level 2. Alongside this you will study Employability and Creative Media.
We offer tasters around the College so you can see what is available for you to apply for after Launchpad. We have an extensive employability program and offer help with the personal development of each individual.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

Employability covers everything from interview skills to enterprise, and ensures your digital skills are up to speed and ready for the world of work. Creative Industries focuses on music technology; looking at music sequencing and production techniques along with how the music industry works. Group size is 25 and the group has a designated keyworker who will look after your pastoral needs. Careers and applications for the next course are also covered, and we offer taster sessions in a variety of technical areas across the College, to help you decide what’s next, and set those all-important goals.

You will need to attend an interview and demonstrate why you feel Launchpad is the right course for you.

How you will be assessed

There are exams for Functional Skills Maths and English.

Course and Career progression

Upon completion of the programme, you will have the opportunity to apply for a Leicester College course starting from September (eligibility criteria may apply). Alternatively, we can offer careers guidance on other options including apprenticeships, traineeships and going into work. Our National Careers Service careers advisers are also available to discuss your options for progression after the course.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website, or if your school uses the Positive Steps @16 (PS16) application system please apply through this and speak to your careers advisor if you are unsure. You will need details of your qualifications and employment history, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent
a conditional offer and be invited to a Welcome Event at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
