Built Environment and Onsite Construction

Our built environment and construction courses are taught at levels 3, 4 and 5, so if you want to study at advanced or degree level for a career in the construction sector then we can help you. These are also available in apprenticeships allowing you to earn money while working with an employer and gaining your professional qualifications with us.

Who are Leicester College’s built environment courses for?

Our built environment courses are for people who have three GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, as well as one science, or a level 2 construction qualification. If you are aged 16 to 19 and don’t yet have your English and maths at grade C/4 or above, these subjects will be an essential part of your study programme. All courses are designed to give you the skills and knowledge needed to work in the built environment industry.

Level 3: Construction BTEC Extended National Diploma. This provides the knowledge, understanding and skills that will allow progression to further education, or directly to employment or an apprenticeship in the construction sector.

Level 4: Construction Higher National Certificate. This allows students develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the construction and the built environment sector. Graduates will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the basic concepts of construction and the built environment.

Level 5: Construction Higher National Diploma. This builds on the level 4 Higher National Certificate. This course consists of building on technical expertise and practical skills for management roles.

Further Information

Work experience will be an essential part of your full-time course for those aged 16-18, and you may be required to purchase personal protective equipment. Site visits and trips to trade shows form part of the vocational enrichment of the course.
