Engineering Operations Diploma level 2 – C7618

Designed for 16-18 year old students forming part of a study programme, who wish to pursue a career in Engineering. The EAL level 2 diploma will give you the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the Engineering sector. You will study a range of core Engineering subjects in both Mechanical/Manufacturing and Electrical/Electronics Engineering, to support your progression to an apprenticeship scheme or an appropriate level 3 programme of study.

If you are aged 16 to 18, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven’t already achieved a grade 4 or above.
You will take part in activities that help you to develop your personal skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career.

If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities.
For other age groups, activities will be tailored to your needs.

Year 1

Over the duration of the course, you will study seven units covering a range of vocational subjects related to the field of engineering technology and operations. Units studied include engineering environment awareness, engineering mathematics, and science principles, electrical and electronic systems and devices, CAD (computer-aided design), and manual machining techniques. The course balances the core theory and knowledge with practical skills and understanding required to enter an engineering apprenticeship.

GCSE Maths at grade 4 English GCSE at grade 3, plus two other GCSEs at grade 3 including a technology/science-based subject. Alternatively a level 1 Diploma in Engineering together with Maths and English GCSE at grade 3 (or functional skills Maths and English at level 2).
Standard entry to this course requires one satisfactory reference and 90% attendance at your last place of work or study.

A combination of external exams and internally assessed assignments and practical work.

Additional Costs

As a requirement of the course, you will be expected to provide appropriate PPE for workshop sessions. This would normally consist of safety boots and overalls. You will be advised about this prior to commencement of the course but should typically be available for around £35.

This course is primarily designed to help students enter employment and most students completing this programme would apply for apprenticeship positions within the Engineering industry. Learners who achieve the necessary entry requirements may wish to undertake further study at level 3 either through the EAL level 3 diploma or T level pathways.

Apply online via the College website, or if your school uses the PS16 application system please apply through this and speak to your careers advisor if you are unsure. You will need details of your qualifications and employment history, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a Welcome Event/Interview at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
