Having access to a well-stocked library is vital for students at Leicester College. Like many things at the moment, we have had to make changes to the way our libraries operate – to keep staff and students as safe as possible.  

Libraries at Abbey Park, Freemen’s Park and St Margaret’s Campuses will all open Monday to Friday as usual, but the opening times will now be more limited from 9am to 5pm, or until 6pm on days when evening classes are taking place at a particular campus (Mondays and Tuesday at Abbey Park Campus; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Freemen’s Park Campus; and Wednesdays and Thursdays at St Margaret’s Campus). 

When you go into a library you should maintain 1m+ social distancing and make sure that you are wearing a face covering. We have introduced a booking system to allow you to book a slot to use the library – you can do this by using MyPC, which is linked to from our Moodle home page. Alternatively, you can email libraries@leicestercollege.ac.uk.   

We have introduced a new click and collect service to request books: you can request a book through catalogue system. Simply login using your student ID and click reserve. You will receive an email when the books are ready for collection.  

Bookshelves have been taped off so you are not able to physically browse through books, paper periodicals and journals, and books will be “quarantined” for 72 hours when they are returned to ensure that they are clean for the next person using them.  

If you are unsure how to use library services, you can contact a librarian on Moodle using our chat facility. As well as allowing you to chat online, there are also various documents and videos about frequent queries and questions about the libraries and IT in them. If no one is available to chat immediately you will have the option to send a message and a librarian will reply.  

Library inductions will be online. You will also be able to attend a GAP (Good Academic Practice) virtual workshop which will help you with referencing and research.
