Course Overview

Leicester College has a long tradition of teaching acting, dance, and musical theatre courses with many of its students currently starring in West End shows, touring nationally or on TV. Our professional, industry-standard studios and theatres (along with a bit of help from the tutors) provide outstanding facilities for full and part time learners.
This exciting 7 week course, will take place in the Abbey Park Campus Theatre. The course aims to introduce and advance your skills in the understanding of acting. You will be encouraged to explore and develop a range of physical and vocal techniques needed for acting. You will use your imagination and creativity to bring characters to life from scripted or devised pieces. You will develop your confidence and self-esteem allowing you to stand in front of an audience and perform.
Even if you are not thinking of a career or role within the ‘performing arts industry, this course would be suitable for any professional with a forward-facing role with people. All of the learning would be invaluable for standing in front of people and presenting.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

Over the 7-week course, you will learn and practice the different elements of good vocal and physical technique needed to be an actor. You will develop essential acting skills and techniques that will help you build a character. You can enhance your creativity and imagination through improvisation and performance. In addition, this course will also help you with your interpersonal skills such as teamwork, and communication with others and boost your confidence and self esteem.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements other than being over 19 years of age and interested in acting and performing or gaining skills that would help when presenting to people.

How you will be assessed

This is a practical course with no exams and no coursework. However, in discussion with your tutor, you will be set targets that need to be completed by the end of the course.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to come into College if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short learner details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
For applications via JCP, please let your Work Coach know. Subject to individual eligibility and type of benefit, the vast majority of courses are FREE to people in receipt of an employment-related benefit JSA, Universal Credit or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
