Student Union and Student Engagement

Student Enrichment

The views of our students are important to us. Listening to you is one of the ways that we can make sure that we are a great place to study.

You can get involved and share you views in lots of ways. You can start by completing surveys that are shared with all students. Or, you can become a course rep or even run for student president.

Our Student Enrichment Team (SET) organise lots of events, activities and trips that you can take part in. Find out what’s happening and how to get involved.

Course representatives

Every year we ask students to nominate two representatives from each course. They will share your feedback and views on many topics with the wider college. This can include completing surveys each term and giving feedback via Teams.

We have on average around 400 reps a year. It’s a great way to meet other people, outside of your course, and get to know other staff.

Super representatives

At the beginning of each year, we ask for super reps. Super reps tend to be returning students. They have already been a student rep and want to continue with more responsibility. As a super rep you’ll invited to attend both the Student Council and Student Liaison Committees. You may also be invited to attend other events and meetings that are organised that year.

Student Liaison Committee

In addition to course reps, we have a student liaison committee which is made up of super reps and the Student Union executive.

The committee meets every term with our Principal and Governors. This gives you the chance to feedback directly to senior staff and governors who make decisions about the future of the college. There is the opportunity to ask questions and respond to questions from our executive leadership team.

Our Student Enrichment Team support all student reps. They make sure that reps understand their roles, feel confident and are happy to attend and speak at these meetings.

Student Union

Our Student Union is run by students for students, with support from our student enrichment team. The ‘executive’ as they are known, are voted into their posts twice a year.

There are 22 executive posts that include the President, Women’s Officer, Welfare Officer, marketing and communications officer, BAME officer, Disabilities officer and more.

Student Council

The Student Council is run and chaired by students. It holds the Student Union to account and can task it with pieces of work. It can also ask the college for feedback or information about pieces of work or how it works with students.
