You might be worried about the cost of education. You don’t need a bulging bank balance to continue or get back into education. There is support available to help pay for both tuition fees and the costs of living while you are studying.

Paying tuition fees

Universities and colleges charge tuition fees to cover key costs of your course, as well as to pay for support services related to your study.

If you are a full-time student you can apply for a loan to cover the cost of tuition fees. This is paid directly to us. You will only start to repay this once you have completed your studies and are earning more than the threshold set by the government. Then you’ll pay 9% of your salary that you earn above the threshold.

Maintenance loans and other support

Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to take out a Student Finance Maintenance Loan. The amount you can borrow depends on your household income (including parents and partners).

The loan is paid directly into your bank account at the start of each term and, like the tuition fee loan, this must be repaid when your course has ended and you start earning over the repayment threshold.

Full-time fees

Our tuition fees for UK and home fees status learners studying full-time university-level courses in 2023-24 were £6,165* per year. This is significantly less than many universities who charge up to £9,250 per year.

Part-time fees

Our tuition fees for UK and home fees status learners studying part-time university-level courses in 2023-24 ranged from £1,900 to £4,265, depending on the number of module credits taught each year.

EU Students

You may be eligible to get a Tuition Fee Loan and help with living costs if you are from an EU country, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. You usually must have settled or pre-settled status under the EU settlement scheme to get student finance. To be eligible for help with living costs, both of the following must apply:

• You’ve lived in the UK, Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for 3 years in a row before the first day of the first academic year of your course

• You have settled status.
