T Levels: Health and Science T Levels can ‘really set you up for the workplace’
“After I finished my GCSEs, I was thinking about moving on to take A Levels,” says Ava Rudkin. “Although I hated exams, so I changed my plan and began looking at BTECs. It was then that I saw a Leicester College advert for T Levels, so I checked the website and went along to an open day to find out more.
“I’ve always wanted to help people, and healthcare seemed a good way to do this. After finding out about the practical and placement elements, I enrolled in a T Level in Health and Science.”
Initially, Ava started in the Midwifery specialism but later switched to Adult Nursing to gain broader experience.
Ava continues: “The highlights of the course for me have been the practicals. CPR is obviously so important, but we’re also learning life skills that can be applied anywhere. The course has met my expectations, but the theory side is harder than I imagined, especially learning about complex topics like heart rhythms and anatomy.
“After I complete the course, I plan to go to university to study children’s nursing and a Masters in Leadership, with the goal of becoming a neo-natal intensive care nurse.
“I would recommend the course to anyone considering a healthcare career. I’ve already attended university open days and have been surprised by how much I know thanks to my T Level studies at Leicester College. It really sets you up for the workplace.”
