Glowing up on Make-Up Artistry course
The BBC Three tv show, ‘Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star’ was an unlikely starting place for a potential new career. However, for Taya Alexander, this show that sees aspiring artists competing to become Britain's next make-up star, gave her a real passion for the artistic side of make-up.
“I come from a very artistic family, and am always creating art and drawing so having art on my face was a natural extension. I brought my own perspective to make-up and I knew that it was what I wanted to do,” says Taya.
“When looking for courses, I did my own research and ended up on the Leicester College website. Teachers at school also recommended it.
“I’ve absolutely loved the course – it just has the best students and staff. There’s a relaxed atmosphere at Leicester College and they’ve treated me like an adult. I struggled a little at school and the move to College was quite nerve wracking at first, but I’ve got the best friendship group now.
“If you’re into make-up, I’d definitely recommend the course. It’s given us so many opportunities to try things out. There’s been a lot of era work, from the 1920s to the present day and without this element, I wouldn’t have known about the history of make-up. I’ve also developed my learning and communication skills.
“I’m looking to stay on for the level 3 so that I can get the right qualification to move on to a foundation degree at university. After that, I’d like to finish a degree and get a job on set in TV and film production.”
