Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • An average week for the apprentice will be working from drawings to produce steel structures

  • This would include marking out, grinding, drilling, folding, flame/plasma cutting and welding

  • Other duties would include maintaining a clean and safe workspace and the loading and offloading of materials using overhead cranes and forklift (once training as been received)

Your training course

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

  • You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff

  • You will attend Leicester College Abbey Park Campus once each week and the rest of the week you will be working with the employer.
