Launched in 2005, the C.K Tools Bright Sparks apprentice scheme continues to flourish and has so far supported more than 22,000 electrical apprentices, by providing sponsorship for 60 colleges across the UK and Ireland. The scheme provides free C.K tools for use in college workshops whilst students are training, together with bursaries to reward their best students.

This year, Leicester College, who take part in the Bright Sparks scheme, have reported some great success stories involving their award-winning students.  These include Coral Allen, who works for Young Electrical and Fred Brant for East Goscote, who both took part in an ERASMUS project to Seville and progressed to become UK ERASMUS Apprentices. One of the highlights included spending four days in Austria, where they met the Austrian president. Recently both apprentices addressed an audience at Westminister talking about their experiences.

Three other Bright Sparks award winners from Leicester College included Jacob Robinson, who now works for Blaby Electrical; Simeon Brandwijk, who is a Leicester College Level 3 student; and Archie Oliver, a full-time learner whose work experience with Lowe Electrical was so impressive, that they took him on as an apprentice.

Neil McManus, Construction Programme Area Manager at Leicester College, said:  “Our involvement in the Bright Sparks Scheme is excellent news for our students and we are really grateful for the support that C.K Tools offers.  Our courses go from strength to strength and this year we have seen a forty per cent increase in new starts.”

Claire Griffiths, Product & Marketing Executive for C.K Tools comments:  “Electrical apprenticeships continue to grow in popularity and we are very happy to support their work through our Bright Sparks initiative for young people seeking a career in the electrical trade.   The success of the scheme was underlined this year with five winners from Leicester College able to benefit and hopefully go on to enjoy successful careers.”
