How to apply

Before you apply for a course at Leicester College we recommend that you speak to a careers advisor – either at your school or an independent specialist. They will be able to make sure you make the right choices based on your ultimate career aims.

Once you have decided upon your chosen career path, do not forget to check the entry requirements to ensure you select the right course for you.

How to Apply 

Applying for a course at Leicester College could not be easier. If you are studying in Year 11 at a Leicester or Leicestershire school, you can apply via PS16 if your school has signed up to it or use our online application form.

Everyone else can apply using the online application form.

Remember: Applying for one of our courses is not a guarantee of a place.

Once we receive your application, you will be contacted by a member of our team to advise you on the next steps.

What Happens After You Apply

All courses (excluding Access to HE) Access to HE courses
Stage 1 Conditional Offer
If you meet the entry requirements you will receive a letter offering you a place on the course. The letter will also detail any conditions of the offer you need to meet to take up the place. One of the requirements is that you attend a Welcome Event, where you will meet your tutors, find out more about the course and other opportunities at Leicester College. If you cannot attend the Welcome Event on your invited date, you must let us know.
What you need to do
If you have been successful, return the reply slip enclosed with your offer letter confirming if you want to accept your place on the course or not within two weeks. If you have been unsuccessful you will be sent a letter explaining why and will be given other options which may be open to you.
Acknowledgement
If you have applied for an Access course and meet the entry requirements you will be sent a letter inviting you to an interview.
If you cannot attend the interview on your invited date you must let us know.
What you need to do
Begin preparing for your interview and compile a portfolio of work if your course requires it. If you have not already provided a reference, get your reference checklist form completed and posted back to the College.
Stage 2 Offer Acceptance
Keep the College informed of any changes to your contact details so that you do not miss any future correspondence. If you change your mind and no longer want a place on the course, pleaseinform us as soon as possible so we can offer your place to someone else.
Course Offer
If you are successful at interview you will receive a letter offering you a place on the course, and also detailing any conditions of the offer. If you are unsuccessful following an interview we will write to you to explain what options may be open to you.
Stage 3 Enrolment
Attend the enrolment event at the allocated time and date, ensure you have brought all the documents you need and any money you need to pay for the course.
Offer Acceptance
Confirm your offer online or by returning your reply slip. You can also call 0116 224 2240 within two weeks of receiving your offer letter to accept your place.
Stage 4 Enrolment
You will receive a text and email asking you to register online for your enrolment. You will then receive a further letter which gives a date and time to come into College to complete your enrolment.

Student Verification

We are part of a government initiative to manage student information. This verification allows students to have a Lifelong Learner Record, which will enable you to take ownership of your own educational records, as well as receive tailored advice and guidance from schools, colleges and universities.

What Do I Need To Enrol?

You will be asked to verify your identity as part of the enrolment process. Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • Passport
  • Driving Licence
  • Bank Card
  • Immigration and Nationality Deportment letter
  • Proof of any support you receive towards your living costs

All applicants who are UK/EU/EEA nationals and have not been living in the UK (including Gibraltar)/EU/EEA for the last three years continuously will require a Right to Study check and a Fee Status Assessment.

All UK resident EU/EEA nationals will need to prove their status under the EU Settlement Scheme.

All applicants who are not UK or EU/EEA nationals will need to prove their Right to Study and have a Fee Status Assessment to determine their access to funding.

Therefore, if you fall into the following categories, you must see an adviser for a Fee Status Assessment before you enrol (this list is not exhaustive):

  • Asylum Seeker (required at the beginning of each new year)
  • Non-British dependent of a British citizen (family reunion / dependent visa / spouse visa)
  • Dependent of an EU/EEA citizen
  • Tier 2 / Tier 4 / Tier 5 / Student Dependant Visa
  • Standard Visitor (Tourist) Visa
  • Refugee (required only once)
  • Dependants of Refugees (family reunion / spouse visa)
  • Settlement / Indefinite Leave to Remain (required only once)
  • Any other person with time-limited Leave to Remain in / Leave to Enter the UK

Anyone already in the UK on a sponsored Student Visa / Tier 4 Student Visa / Short-term Study Visa should contact the International Office for more information on their eligibility to study with us (please note the dependants of student visa holders should be referred to Welfare for a Fee Status Assessment as detailed above).

PS16 Application for 16-18 School Leavers

PS16 is an online prospectus and application system for young people to apply to school sixth forms, colleges and training providers and is used by many schools around Leicester and Leicestershire in order to help school leavers apply for the next steps in their education. If you are leaving school and need to apply for college please speak to your school careers advisor who will help you get your application in via PS16.
