What will the apprentice be doing?

The role will include:

  • Read an engineering drawing and translate this information into a physical customer component
  • Use multiple manually operated machines to remove material in a safe and accurate manner
  • Use metrology equipment to inspect customer products to ensure they are correct to the engineering drawing
  • Use of CNC driven machines in order to produce very high accuracy customer components
  • Program a CNC driven machine in the relevant programming language for the machine, the information will be taken from the engineering drawing and from other computer programs and the engineers own gained knowledge
  • Setup a CNC machine in order for the CNC machine and program to produce the correct component at the end of the process

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will complete an advanced level 3 Machining Technician apprenticeship standard. You will attend college, one day per week at the Abbey Park Campus.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once you have completed you can gain full-time employment or complete a HNC/HND in engineering.
