UCAS Tariff Points

UCAS tariff points are used to measure the value of different qualifications you can take after the age of 16 in the UK.

Each grade you get in your course is worth a certain number of points. The better your grade, the more points you earn.

Why are UCAS points important?

Some universities and courses will make offers based on the total number of UCAS points you have.

Not all courses use UCAS points, but for those that do, it gives you more flexibility in how you meet the entry requirements. UCAS says about 70% of courses now include UCAS points as part of their entry criteria.

If a university gives you a grade-based offer (like ABB at A Level), you need to get those exact grades. But if the offer is based on points (like 120 UCAS points), you can reach that total with different combinations of grades.

How many UCAS points can I get with a T Level?

UCAS points will be allocated to the overall T Level grade and not to separate components of the programme. T Levels will receive points in line with 3 A levels, such that the highest overall T Level grade (Distinction*) will be awarded the same number of points as 3 A*s at A level (168 UCAS points). An overall T Level Pass grade will be awarded at least 72 UCAS points, in line with 3 Ds at A level.

Partial Achievement

In addition to the revised look up tables, the department has agreed with UCAS to allocate UCAS tariff points for partial achievement of the programme. This will reflect the valuable learning and skills gained by some students who have not achieved a full T Level.

UCAS have updated the UCAS Tariff Points - Calculate Your Entry Requirements to ensure the points are reflected as relevant to each T Level.
