Leicester College’s first international Turing Trip: an adventure in Seville

We’re kicking off 2025 year in an exciting way—through our first international Turing trip! A group of 15 eager students from the motor vehicle and electrical installation programmes embarked on a two-week work placement in Seville, Spain, thanks to the Turing Scheme. This incredible opportunity allows students to gain real-world experience abroad, enhancing both their professional skills and personal growth.

A busy start with Spanish sun and new skills

After landing in Seville, the students jumped straight into induction activities and Spanish lessons, and meeting their new employers. It's been a whirlwind of learning, but they’ve wasted no time settling in.

At their work placements, the students have been putting their skills to the test. Whether it’s working on motor vehicles or tackling electrical installations, they’re gaining valuable hands-on experience. What’s even more impressive is how they’ve managed to communicate and collaborate with employers who speak little or no English. The feedback from employers has been glowing, especially when it comes to the students' exceptional social skills and respectful manner. It's clear they’re not just learning the technical aspects of their fields—they're building confidence and professionalism too.

Teamwork beyond the classroom

It’s not all about work, though! The students are also living in apartments together. From meal planning and grocery shopping to cooking for each other, they’re navigating the challenges of daily life and supporting one another. They’re not just building their careers—they’re building lasting friendships and life skills.

Exploring Seville’s rich culture

Of course, it’s not all work and no play! During the weekend, the group took on a series of challenges designed to help them explore and appreciate the rich history and culture of Seville. From historic landmarks to vibrant local markets, they’ve embraced the city with open arms.

Looking ahead: week two promises even more adventure

As the students head into their second week, the excitement doesn’t stop. They’ll continue their work placements, enhance their Spanish language skills, and even take on some kayaking adventures.

This Turing trip is proving to be more than just a work placement — it’s a chance for the students to grow in every way imaginable.
