The wait for GCSE results is finally over – whether you’re jumping for joy or disappointed that you didn’t do as well as expected there are still plenty of options for you. Here are our tips on what you could do next.

You’ve got the grades you were expecting – or did even better

Well done! All your hard work has paid off and now you’re ready to prepare for your next steps. Firstly, double check the college and courses you originally applied for are still the ones for you. Will they allow you to get into the career or university you are hoping to? If they are, contact the college or sixth form to confirm your place.

If you are having second thoughts have a look around at alternatives – it’s not too late to change your mind. You can browse Leicester College’s course vacancies or call 0116 224 2240 to talk through options.

You missed out on your expected grades

Don’t panic – there are still lots of options for you. If you’ve missed out by just one or two grades contact your first choice college or sixth form as soon as possible – you might still be able to do your chosen course or qualification.  At Leicester College we still have places on lots of courses, such as level 2 and 3 BTECs and vocational diplomas, in subjects including computing, hair and beauty, engineering, hospitality, food, science and humanities.

If you missed out on a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths you can re-sit these at Leicester College alongside your chosen course.

If you’re unsure about what your options are, our helpful careers advisors can help you find your way with some careers advice. This includes what to do next in regards to further education, employment or training. A drop in services is available throughout the year at our Abbey Park campus. Appointments can be made to meet with an adviser at all of our campuses by calling 0116 224 2240.

Whatever happened, give yourself a pat on the back – getting through this marker in life is a huge achievement. It’s now time to move onwards and upwards.
