More Than a Game: Leicester Sporting Showcase Celebrates the City’s Sporting Community
28 April 2026

Leicester Sporting Showcase is proud to announce a new exhibition celebrating the city’s rich and diverse sporting culture, running from 29 April to 11 May at the Leicester Adult Education Centre, Belvoir Street.
Leicester is often recognised for many things: from its industry and culture to historic moments that have captured global attention. However, the city’s vibrant sporting community is often overlooked. From the unforgettable Premier League triumph that shocked the world to the dedication of grassroots clubs shaping the next generation, sport has played a vital role in Leicester’s identity. This exhibition aims to highlight those achievements and recognise the athletes, supporters and community organisations that continue to make sports such an important part of life in the city.
Sport has long been at the heart of Leicester’s identity, bringing together people from different backgrounds, cultures and communities through a shared passion. This spring, that connection will take centre stage in Leicester Sporting Showcase, a new exhibition celebrating the stories, achievements and community impact of sport across the city.
Hosted at the Leicester Adult Education Centre, the exhibition explores how sport extends far beyond competition, shaping communities, inspiring individuals and strengthening the city’s cultural identity. Through interviews, photography, visual displays and interactive content, visitors will be able to explore the experiences of athletes, fans and grassroots organisations that contribute to Leicester’s vibrant sporting landscape.
The exhibition features exclusive insights from professional athletes including Ricardo Pereira, who spoke about the unifying power of sport and its ability to connect people across communities. Pereira explained that individuals from different religions, backgrounds and cultures can still find common ground through sport, noting that football “brings people together and gives people something in common.”
The showcase also highlights perspectives from across Leicester’s wider sporting landscape, including Tess Feury, who praised the strength of the city’s sporting community. Feury described Leicester’s supporters as “amazing,” noting that fans continue to support the team game after game, with many spectators attending a Leicester Tigers match for the very first time.
Alongside celebrating the positive impact of sport, the project will also explore more challenging and controversial conversations within the sporting world through a series of written articles. These pieces aim to encourage discussion around wider issues within sport, offering audiences a more balanced and thoughtful perspective on the industry and its influence on communities.
Created by Media students at Leicester College, the exhibition has been developed with a strong focus on accessibility and community engagement. Visitors of all ages are encouraged to attend, whether they are lifelong sports fans or simply interested in learning more about the people and stories behind Leicester’s sporting scene.
The project also extends beyond the physical exhibition through a range of digital assets designed to increase engagement. These include a dedicated website featuring articles, interviews and additional content, alongside interactive elements such as mini games that allow audiences to explore Leicester’s sporting culture in a creative and engaging way.
The exhibition has been developed in collaboration with local sports ambassadors and supported by industry professionals in marketing and graphic design. Organisers hope the project will strengthen connections between Leicester’s sporting organisations and the wider community, while providing a platform for emerging creatives to present work that celebrates the city’s diverse sporting culture.
By bringing together athlete perspectives, community voices and creative storytelling, Leicester Sporting Showcase aims to highlight how sport continues to shape Leicester’s identity, inspire future generations and strengthen connections across the city.
