Leicester College is featured on The Social Mobility List 2024, highlighting the key contributors and initiatives that are driving social mobility in the UK.

The first of its kind, The Social Mobility List is a ground-breaking new publication from Making The Leap, in partnership with bp. The List aims to recognise schools like Leicester College making significant strides in advancing social mobility across the UK. It is aimed at stakeholders across the social mobility ecosystem, from policymakers to business leaders, educational institutions and the wider public.

Social mobility support activities at Leicester College include:

  • Care experienced events

  • Specialist mentoring

  • Sexual health drop-ins

  • Food parcels and care packages

  • Student enrichment sessions

  • Leaders Unlocked

  • Summer programme

  • Library activities

  • Young adult carers

Shabir Ismail, Acting Principal/CEO of Leicester College, said: “We’re delighted to make The Social Mobility List 2024, recognising the College as a champion of change in the social mobility area. We’re particularly proud that the organisers highlighted that we’re ‘fostering an environment where talent and potential can flourish, regardless of background’.”

The List celebrates 56 different organisations across 12 categories, as well as 18 individuals across a further three categories, and five charities leading the way in social mobility. A digital version of the List is available at www.socialmobilitylist.com

Earlier this year, Leicester College won the best School/College of the Year category in the 2024 UK Social Mobility Awards (SOMOs). The Awards were established to recognise and celebrate forward-thinking organisations that are actively creating positive social change for their employees and in their communities, by embedding social mobility initiatives into their core business strategy.
