29 June 2021
Collins is currently studying for his Level 2 Business Certificate and was nominated for the award by his tutors in recognition of the work that he has put in for the College’s extracurricular sports programme.
Collins is one of the College's Football Activators and holds the elected position of Sports and Entertainment Officer for the Student Union. He is an excellent student with outstanding attendance and punctuality.
In his nomination for the award, Steven Whittle, Student Liaison Officer, Sports and Active Lifestyles at Leicester College said: “Collins' involvement with our sports offer began by taking part in a few recreational sessions which developed to becoming a key role model for students. He is now a Football Activator, a member of the competitive basketball team, and has been elected as the Sports and Ents Officer within our Student Union.
“Collins regularly promotes the benefits of active lifestyles with students and has helped deliver outdoor workshops to promote this during COVID. He has been influential in the growth of our recreational football offer, and his work on growing participation levels has been the foundation of us agreeing on a partnership with Leicester City in the Community to develop a series of football sessions to target ESOL learners at the College.
“Collins' commitment to his roles has meant that he is regularly working in his free time to develop sporting opportunities for all students. His enthusiastic involvement has successfully recruited inactive students to sport, helped reintroduce a competitive basketball team at the college, and helped develop links with key stakeholders in the local community.
“His work ethic, personality, and desire to help have all been key parts of his volunteering roles. His desire to play sport himself and create opportunity for others has helped create a positive environment for all participants regardless of ability or background.”
