Leicester College awarded HE Teaching Excellence Gold
22 June 2017
Leicester College’s undergraduate offering has been recognised for its fantastic work in the Higher Education sector and been awarded Gold under the Government’s new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
The TEF was introduced in 2015 to recognise and reward excellence in teaching in universities and colleges. The aim is to help learners choose where to study, providing clear information about the teaching standards and student facilities at institutions.
The report highlighted that the majority of Leicester College HE students achieved outstanding outcomes with high proportions of learners progressing to highly skilled employment or higher study. The metrics indicated excellent levels of satisfaction with teaching, assessment and feedback.
Leicester College prides itself on being able to offer the opportunity to allow learners to up skill and also help retain talent within the city. It is exciting to be named the only FE College in the East Midlands to get Gold.
Manager of Higher Education at Leicester College, Marco Salotti, said:
“Achieving TEF Gold reflects the hard work and professionalism of our staff delivering higher education. Of course it’s not just a badge, it is confirmation that the majority of students who choose to study university level courses at Leicester College achieve outstanding outcomes.
“Our commitment to working with employers, the scholarship of our staff and the way we engage with our students all contribute to a growth mind-set that results in real change for a wide range of people.
“Ultimately, in a very competitive market, our TEF Gold outcome clearly states that choosing undergraduate study at Leicester College is a really positive choice.”
Leicester College and De Montfort University partnered up in 2014 enabling the College to provide DMU-accredited courses, it is a credit to the city that both institutions have been awarded Gold.
Vice-Chancellor of De Montfort University Professor Dominic Shellard said:
“Many congratulations to Leicester College on the award of Gold under the TEF. This represents not only a magnificent achievement for an institution which plays a vital role in Leicester but, through our partnership and our own Gold award, a ‘Double Gold’ for the city, which we take great pride in.
“There are major implications for the city and the region in this recognition of our work and our partnership and we look forward to deepening our collaboration in the months and years to come.”
Principal of Leicester College, Verity Hancock, said:
“We’re extremely proud to be awarded a Gold through the Teaching Excellence Framework. Our higher education team at the College has worked tirelessly alongside our partners De Montfort University who also achieved gold to provide excellent learning and teaching facilities and opportunities for students.
“Our lecturers work incredibly hard to provide students with the best possible experience of higher education. There have been some fantastic success stories to come out of the partnership with DMU and this TEF result is richly deserved.”
