Dr Suzie Imber inspires our Girls into STEM audience.
15 March 2018
Leicester College was honoured to have Dr Suzie Imber the winner of BBC 2’s Astronaut: Do you have what it takes? And Associate Professor in Space Physics at the University of Leicester come and talk at the Girls in STEM event held at the College during British Science Week. There were girls from schools around Leicester and Leicestershire which took part and tried their hand at engineering, construction and even extracting DNA from a banana.
Dr Suzie kicked off the day with an inspirational speech. Some of the key lessons we picked out from her talk were:
Extra-curricular Activities – Find things you enjoy outside of your academic life as these will help build your personal experience and help enhance you in all aspects of your journey.
Keep going and striving, if you really want something you can achieve it, use failure as motivation.
Be a go-getter – things that you are weak at do not allow any of them hold you back, use the chance to learn them and plug the skill gap you have.
Hard work pays off!
