This is a two-year part-time programme that culminates in the award of a Higher National Diploma (HTQ) in Engineering. If you have chosen a career in engineering, this level 5 course offers students willing to follow a Electrical and Electronics Engineering pathway with both advanced knowledge and a clear understanding of how it is applied in the industry.
The HND in engineering course is designed to enable students who may have come through a vocational route to progress into higher education, building on the knowledge gained at level 4.
On successful completion of the HND, you will be eligible to enrol on a top-up degree (final year of university) course or enter employment.
Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQ) at levels 4 and 5 are an alternative to apprenticeships or degrees. They may suit you if you want a employer-led study programme, approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. HTQ will also focus on the knowledge and skills required by industry.
Over the course of this two-year programme, you will study the following units in the first year:
Professional Engineering Management Note: This is a Pearson-set unit,
- Further Mathematics
- Embedded Systems
- Utilisation of Electrical Power.
A project or suitable industry trip may also be undertaken to develop industry based knowledge and skills.
Over the course of this two year programme, you will study the following units in the second year:
- Further Programmable Logic Controllers
- Further Electrical Machines and drives
- Industrial Power, electronics and Storage
- Further Electrical
- Electronics and Digital principles.
A project or suitable industry trip may also be undertaken to develop industry based knowledge and skills.
Standard entry requirements for this course include successful completion of a Level 4 qualification in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. In addition, you are expected to hold GCSE English and Mathematics at grade 4 (or equivalent). An interview may be required to ascertain prior achievement.
- Annual Tuition fee: £3178
On successful completion of the Higher National Diploma (HTQ) you will be able to apply to study a further year to obtain a full degree at university. This qualification is well regarded throughout the industry and the academic world. Career opportunities include managerial and technical positions in Electrical engineering area.
Applications to university course to top up the degree must be made through UCAS using relevant institution code. For most of our learners employment is the next step of their journey.
