Further Education Courses

Overview

We run a huge variety of further education courses, the majority of which run on weekdays in the daytime. Our courses are offered at all levels across a wide range of areas such as: business, construction, sport, art and design, engineering, health and social care, childcare and more. We also offer a huge range of apprenticeships within these areas if you want to earn while you learn.

Who are Leicester College’s further education courses for?

Further education courses are suitable for both school leavers and people who want to return to learning. They are taught across three campuses in industry standard facilities to allow our learners to gain experience with equipment and environment that are found in the workplace.

If you are aged 16 to 18 when you start your course with us and you don’t have English and/or maths GCSE at grade 4 (C) or equivalent, these subjects will be an essential part of your study programme.

Further education courses can also be for people who are looking to start a new career: you can study with no matter your age

Further Information

Studying a full time course here offers a lot of progression options for example if you are studying a lower level course you can progress up through the courses and in some circumstances you can achieve a degree.

Beginner’s Ceramics – Slab Building and Printing – C8275

You will explore the potential and limitations of plastic clay through the construction of slab-built ceramics. Using traditional techniques and source materials you will design a range of slab-built, functional pieces and produce one of these. You will learn how to create surface texture and pattern using impressing, stamping and ‘sgraffito’ techniques, as well as printing and surface transfers or ‘decals’. These techniques will be developed using found objects as well as pottery decoration tools and methods.
