Access to Higher Education

Overview

Our Access to Higher Education courses offer the opportunity for individuals without traditional qualifications (A levels) to return to education and prepare themselves for progression onto studying at university level. These courses are designed to broaden your knowledge in your area of interest and bring you up to A level standard in just one year. Leicester College offer courses in:

  • business studies
  • computing
  • engineering
  • humanities and social science
  • health professions
  • media and art
  • science
  • travel and tourism

A recent development for both access courses and progression to university level programmes is the requirement for adult learners to have both English and maths GCSE at grade 4 (C) or above. Here at Leicester College we can support you on access courses by providing the opportunity to study GCSE maths or English at the same time. However if you don’t have either of these qualifications you could consider our Pre-Access course. This is an intensive one year full-time programme which concentrates on preparing adult learners to return to study, as well as concentrated maths and English learning.

Who are Leicester College’s Access to Higher Education courses for?

We understand that returning to education is a big decision. Access to Higher Education courses are for adults aged 19+ returning to education. Everyone on your course will be an adult, you won’t be the only one! We have an excellent team of tutors and lecturers who understand that it may have been a while since you last studied and they are on hand to support you.

Further Information

Previous learners have gone on to study at many different universities, following their dreams and fulfilling their best potential. An access course opens the door to careers such as teaching, nursing, social work and other professions which require university qualifications.

UCAS Tariff points are allocated to Access courses, in a similar way to A levels. And you can earn up to 144 points – which is the same as getting three A* at A level.
