Science, Social Science & Humanities

Science, social science and humanities

From BTEC diplomas to Access programmes, we offer science-based courses at levels 2, and 3. Courses cover essential elements of all three of the main science disciplines: biology, chemistry, and physics. Our BTEC courses are focussed on employment and working in the science industry (for example as a technician, or in the fields of engineering, pharmacology, forensics or other scientific industries), while our pre-Access and Access programmes will enable you to apply for entry to a science-based degree at university.

Who are Leicester College’s Science, social science and humanities courses for?

Courses are open to anyone from school leavers to adult learners looking for a career change, and we can help you find the appropriate level of course for you based on your existing qualifications and work experience. Learners aged 16-19 will follow a study programme which will include GCSE or functional skills English and maths if you don’t already have your grade 4 (C). Our science Access courses are aimed at learners aged 19+ who wish to go on to study science at university, and we also offer pre-Access science diplomas if you still need to obtain your English and maths GCSEs. For students from non-English speaking countries, we also offer one-year international foundation programmes in science which allow you to work on your English language skills while studying your chosen subject.

Further information

Work experience forms part of many full-time courses. Day trips and other enrichment activities may also be offered to complement your studies. Please note that Access diplomas in science do not allow entry to competitive degrees such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, physics, or maths. However, past learners have been accepted to foundation degrees in both maths and physics.
