Plumbing and Gas
We are one of the first college’s to offer the new T level in building services engineering for construction. Find out more about T levels.
For people new to the industry to professionals needing additional qualifications we have a course for you. Our plumbing courses are taught at levels 1, 2, and 3. You can also complete an intermediate or advanced apprenticeship in plumbing, or an advanced apprenticeship in gas installation allowing you to earn money while working with an employer and gaining your professional qualifications with us. From basic skills in plumbing (such as site preparation; plumbing science; and copper pipework) to professional qualifications. Students often progress up through our courses before entering the workforce. It’s also possible after this to progress to a level 3 National Diploma before undertaking a level 4 or 5 (university level) Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment.
Our plumbing and gas courses are suitable both for school leavers as well as older people and/or those with some experience in the industry. The appropriate level for you will be decided based on your prior qualifications and work experience – many learners stay with us for two or more years to develop their skills to the required level for employment. If you are aged 16 to 19 and don’t yet have your English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above, these subjects will be an essential part of your study programme. All courses are designed to give you the skills and knowledge needed to work as a professional plumber or qualified gas engineer.
Work experience will form an essential part of your course. You will be required to purchase personal protective equipment, a toolkit and stationery. Site visits and trips to trade shows form part of the vocational enrichment of the course. All courses involve a mixture of practical and theoretical assessment. You will pass the course by demonstrating your skills both in exams as well as in your practical work.
