This non-accredited course takes place at our St Margaret’s Campus. Classes are on Thursdays from 12:30pm to 3:00pm. The course runs for 13 weeks, starting on 12 March and ending on 25 June 2026.
This course is for learners who already know the basics of upholstery. You will learn new skills and harder techniques to help you complete bigger and more detailed projects. You will also learn more about how upholstery work is done in a professional setting.
You may need to bring some of your own materials to each class.
You will need to bring your own item to work on, such as dining chairs, an armchair, or a winged chair.
During this course, you will learn:
- Understand health and safety, safe working practice regulations
- Safely disassemble furniture
- Remove old fabric and padding
- Install new webbing and foam
- Measure, cut and secure fabric
- Use techniques to create finishing trims.
Each week will further develop these skills and guided by your tutor you will apply these to your chosen piece of furniture.
This course is designed to support those interested in progressing onto accredited learning and/or future employment or self-employment within this industry. It is suitable for those that have completed our Upholstery Improvers 1 Course or have significant previous upholstery experience.
You will need to be able to participate in hands-on, physical work using tools and materials that require a reasonable level of physical strength and mobility.
You must be aged 19+ and be able to complete a short workbook on a weekly basis with the help of your tutor.
The cost of the course is £130.00. However, you will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
- Universal Credit
- JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group)
There will be no fees if you earn less than £25,750.
You can only complete this course once.
During this course you will explore the various opportunities to move onto accredited learning or employment within the industry upon completion.
Your tutor will advise and discuss the various progression routes available to you. You can also access the College Careers Team to support your progression.
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required or sent a conditional offer according to the course's entry requirements. You will then be invited to enrol for your chosen course.
