This non-accredited course is delivered at St Margaret's Campus, each Thursday, from 12:30pm to 3pm for 11 weeks, starting on 19 November and finishing on 11 February 2027.
This course builds on your existing knowledge, equipping you with advanced techniques to tackle a range of upholstery projects.
You may be required to bring some of your own materials to each session.
You will also need to have a set of dining chairs, an armchair, or a wing chair to upholster during the course.
During this course, you will learn:
- Understand health and safety, safe working practice regulations
- Safely disassemble furniture
- Remove old fabric and padding
- Install new webbing and foam
- Measure, cut and secure fabric
- Use techniques to create finishing trims
Each week will develop these skills and guided by your tutor you will apply these to your chosen piece of furniture.
This course is designed to support those interested in progressing onto accredited learning and/or future employment or self-employment within this industry. It is suitable for those that have completed our Introduction to Upholstery Beginners 1 and 2 Courses or have some previous upholstery experience.
You will need to be able to participate in hands-on, physical work using tools and materials that require a reasonable level of physical strength and mobility.
You must be aged 19 or over and be able to complete a short workbook each week with support from your tutor.
- Annual Tuition fee: £110
The cost of the course is £110.00. However, you will not be required to pay a fee if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
- Universal Credit
- Job Seekers Allowance (JSA)
- Employment Support Allowance (ESA - Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group)
There will be no fees if your annual income is less than £26,800.
You can only complete this course once.
On completion of this course, you may progress onto our Upholstery Improvers 2 course or one of our other Adult Engagement and Progression courses.
Your tutor will discuss the various progression routes available to you and provide advice on your next steps. You can also access support from the College Careers Team to help with your progression.
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required or sent a conditional offer according to the course's entry requirements. You will then be invited to enrol for your chosen course.
