Take your photography to the next level with this practical studio lighting course. If you already know how to use a Digital SLR camera, this course will help you build new skills. You’ll learn how to set up and use lighting equipment, try out different ways to frame and compose your photos, and create your own project. You’ll also get access to Leicester College’s studios, darkrooms, and editing suites. With support from experienced teachers, you’ll gain the confidence to produce professional-looking images.
This course runs for 7 weeks on Thursday evenings, 6–9 pm, at St Margaret’s Campus.
This workshop aims to help you confidently use studio lighting. Learning the basics of lighting techniques and framing your subject. You will get to know all parts of the equipment as well as create your own self guided project. You will require your own Digital SLR during the session. We can adapt delivery to different makes and types.
No formal qualifications required, however, you must have DSLR experience and or completed the previous Digital Photography Short course. A keen interest in photography is essential.

An SD card and your own digital camera is required.
After finishing the studio lighting course, you can move on to other photography and digital courses at Leicester College. You might choose the Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Photography or other digital qualifications. From there, you could even progress to a Higher National Diploma (HND) degree in Photography. Leicester College also offers short courses like Introduction to Adobe Photoshop and Advanced Adobe Photoshop to help you build your editing skills.
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to come into College if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study. For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short student details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment
