This nationally recognised course is ideal for anyone who wants to better understand autism. You'll learn what autism is, why it is known as a spectrum, and how it can affect people's communication, behaviour and everyday experiences.

The course is suitable for anyone working with the public, including those in education, health and social care. It is also valuable for parents, carers, family members and anyone wanting to better support an autistic person.

The course takes around 14 weeks to complete, depending on the time you have available and your existing knowledge.

During this course, you will learn about:
- Understanding autism
- Person-centred support
- Communication and social interaction
- Sensory processing and how people experience the world
- Supporting positive behaviour
- Helping autistic people live healthy and fulfilling lives

You'll usually have three weeks to complete each submission. If you need more time, simply contact the Distance Learning Team.
You can study online through our learning platform, Equal, or choose a paper-based course pack. Everything you need to complete the course is provided.

As this is a distance learning course, you'll study from home at a time that suits you. There are no classes to attend, and our friendly tutors are available to support you throughout your learning.

You must be over 19.

During the application process, you are asked the following: Please describe why you have chosen this course and what you hope to gain from completing it. Please include anything you already know regarding the subject. This helps us check this is the right course at the right level for you. We also need to confirm that you haven't completed the qualification, or similar, before. This is for funding purposes.

We ask for a description, for this you must write in full sentences, we would expect around 2 paragraphs.

If you do not meet the required standard, we will give you a second opportunity to answer the question. If the required standard is still not met, we will sign post you to our careers team for advice and guidance.

If you are not a British Citizen, you may have to complete a Right to Study Assessment, or provide a Share Code, to ensure you qualify for government funding. We cannot fund you if you live in a Devolved Area.

We are unable to grant extensions on Unit 1, please only apply to do this course if you are ready to start it now and have time available.

Annual Tuition fee: £0

The level 2 distance learning courses are fully funded.
If you are not a British Citizen you may need to complete a Fee Assessment to check funding eligibility.

Please note that, upon successful completion of your course, you will receive an e-certificate by email. Printed certificates are not provided as standard.

Awarding organisations have moved away from issuing physical certificates to support environmental sustainability, reduce their carbon footprint, and make it easier to obtain a replacement certificate if required. If you would like a printed certificate, this can be requested at a cost of £46, payable by the learner.

At the end of your course, your tutor may suggest a suitable option for you or you can contact the Distance Learning team to advise you on the courses available. We also have a careers team available via phone, email, or in person who can help to plan a career pathway for you.
