The Health and Science T level focuses on adult nursing team support. It includes essential content that employers want. Industry leaders designed this two-year course to prepare you for a role in health and science.
With dedicated classmates, you’ll gain the skills to work as an adult healthcare assistant. You can also move on to a higher-level apprenticeship or a degree.
For 80% of the T level, you’ll be in the classroom. You’ll learn key scientific concepts and regulations for the health and science sector. This knowledge prepares you for a 45-day placement with an adult nursing team. You’ll work on an employer-set project, giving you real experience as an adult healthcare assistant.
You’ll also participate in activities that build your personal skills, like confidence and character. This will help you thrive in your chosen career.
Step into your year-one classroom. A world of essential health and science knowledge awaits. You learn about person-centered care, health, and wellbeing. You also discover how to manage personal information. You dive into the science of diseases, disorders, and human anatomy. Your tutors explain how to prevent and control infections in health settings.
You explore how the industry works. You learn about healthcare roles, pathways, and the diverse employers you might work for. Your friendly tutors introduce vital contexts, theories, and principles in health and science.
By the end of year one, you’ll have a solid grasp of core scientific concepts and key regulations. This includes managing information, health and safety, and good scientific practice.
When year two starts, you dive into adult nursing team support, your chosen field. With your classmates, you explore what adult nursing means. You learn how to support the team and see how caregivers meet adult needs.
You assist with clinical tasks, like moving adults, taking measurements, collecting specimens, applying basic dressings, and supporting skin assessments for conditions.
Day-to-day support for adults is also part of the course. You build a toolkit to help adults with their nutrition, hygiene, health, and well-being.
In the second year, you take a 45-day industry placement and work on a project set by an employer. This is your chance to apply your knowledge in a real-life setting and see what it's like to be part of the adult care team.
To boost your English, math, and digital skills for health and science, you work with tutors to achieve the essential level 2 in English and math needed to complete the course.
To be accepted onto the Health and Science T Level, you must be aged 16–18 on 31 August in the year you start the course and have five GCSEs at grade 4 or higher, including maths, English, and double science.
