This course is designed to offer progression from the level 1 diploma in Construction Skills or equivalent, and will allow students to practice and develop their skills further required for employment and/or a career as a Plaster in the construction sector. You must supply safety footwear/clothing and an identified tool kit. Technical drawing equipment and stationery are also necessary.
If you are aged 16 to 18, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will take part in activities that help you to develop your personal skills, such as building your character and confidence though a pastoral programme including group and individual activities . This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career.
If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities.
The content aligns to the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the Plasterer Occupational Standard and is designed to prepare the student to work in the construction industry as a plasterer. The qualification covers core elements of the plastering role such as plastering internal walls and rendering external walls and other duties relating to a plasterer. Successful achievement of the qualification allows the learner to be classed as ‘site ready’ with the knowledge, skills and behaviours necessary to enter the occupation.
Our level 2 technical Diploma in Plastering covers all the main skills and knowledge required to further your learning and progress in this trade. You will study the following mandatory content:
Construction Health and Safety, Construction Information, Quantities and Communications, Construction Principles, Personal Skills in the Construction Industry, Personal Wellbeing in Construction, Environmental Awareness Sustainability in Construction, Employment in the Construction Industry, Preparing Background Surfaces for Plasterwork, Apply Plaster to Internal Surfaces, Apply Render to External Surfaces,
As a practical course, you will learn in an environment with practical assessments, bespoke workshops, and complete theory in the classroom.
Direct entry to this course requires GCSEs in both English and maths at grade 3 or above, plus a further two GCSEs at grade 3 or above, one of which must include a design or technical-based subject. You will also need to provide one reference and it is desirable that you can demonstrate a minimum of 90% attendance in your last place of study or work.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled in a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
Students previously studying with us will need to have attained either a Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills or similar, plus English and maths at grade 2 minimum or the equivalent Functional Skills.
All students will undertake a monitoring period for the first six weeks of their programme. During this time, attendance, attitude, attainment, and application toward study will be monitored. A final decision as to the most appropriate level and outcome will be discussed with you towards the end of your first six weeks.

Students will need to purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) plus an identified tool kit. The approximate combined cost of £76. Previous Leicester College students may only require a top-up tool kit at a reduced cost. You will also require stationary. There is a materials fee applicable to this course. There may be an additional examination registration fee of approximately £155 if applicable.
Successful students will be ‘site ready’ and can use this qualification to improve their employment opportunities. They will have a wider range of employment situations open, allowing access to more construction sites. The qualification provides a route into the construction industry for all students. This is helping with the national labour and skills shortage in this important sector of industry.

You will need details of your qualifications and employment history, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a Welcome Event/Interview at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
