This course is for school leavers (16+) who wish to continue their learning in a college environment. The curriculum is personalised so that you can participate in a range of activities that stimulate and encourage your individual development. Our core themes for learning are based on the Preparing for Adulthood strands – Independent Living, Friends, Relationships and Community, Employability and Good Health, as well as from your individual outcomes on your Education and Health Care Plan. English and Maths skills are embedded as part of the curriculum, as well as your personal and social skills.
Pathway to Life offers a detailed and aspirational learning programme, with a strong focus on preparing for the future, increasing independence and accessing the community. Learning is personalised and shaped by each student’s EHCP, ensuring every learner gets the most out of their time on the course. Our modules include:
Cooking for All – Practical cooking for yourself and others
Life Skills – Building independence, personal hygiene and building resilience
Personal Development – Wellbeing, RSE, Enterprise and making choices
We have strong connections with local community partners and work closely with families to help nurture students’ independence and practice college activities at home through regular home-learning activities.
This programme is for students (16+) who have completed the first year or have already made the transition from school to another educational provider who wish to continue their learning in a college environment. Students in their second year will continue with their personalised curriculum so that they can participate in a range of activities which stimulate and encourage individual development. Our core themes for learning are based on the Preparing for Adulthood strands – Independent Living, Friends, Relationships and Community, Employability and Good Health and from your individual outcomes on your Education and Health Care Plans. Your English and maths skills will continue to be developed as well as your personal and social skills.
There are no formal entry requirements. Applicants must complete an application form, even where the Local Authority has already consulted with the college. A reference from your current educational setting is required, along with relevant support plans and information.
You will be invited to a course preview event and an interview, where you will meet key staff, discuss your aspirations and review your support needs.
Please ensure your Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) is included with your application.

Materials fee: £50 (annually)
Community Off Site Outings Fee £75
A yearly £75 off-site community fee is payable in cash directly to the SAIL Administrator. This fee covers the cost of community-based learning activities throughout the year, including visits to supermarkets and charity shops, bus fares, coach hire, cinema and theatre trips, bowling and other excursions. We ask for payment in cash as this supports students in developing their money-handling skills and ensures funds are available for activities as soon as they enrol.
Your progress is continually reviewed throughout the year to ensure that you are making consistent academic progress. Subject to suitable attendance and progress, you will have the opportunity to progress onto year 2 and 3 of the programme to further develop your independence skills.
Throughout the year, parents and carers are invited to attend meetings where our team will share progress, achievements and encourage families to network and ask questions.
Students leave this programme with increased independence and confidence, ready to take their next steps. Many progress to a day centre setting where they can continue to develop and thrive. Pathway to Tomorrow, Leicester College’s day provision, offers an appropriate and supportive destination for this transition.

Once you have applied, you will be contacted to attend a course preview and interview. If successful, you will then be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You must confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you and complete enrolment before the start of the academic year.
