This course is for students who want to build their confidence in maths, starting with the basics and moving on to more challenging topics. You will learn at your own pace, beginning with content aimed at GCSE grades 1 to 3. As you improve, you will tackle more problem-solving questions at grades 4 to 5 to prepare for the Foundation tier exam. If you are ready, you can then move on to higher level topics (grades 6 to 9) to prepare for the higher tier exam.
This is a fast-paced course for adults (19+) that have previously studied GCSE Maths and are looking to do the November resit. The course will be once a week, Tuesdays 5pm to 8pm at Abbey Park Campus. The course will run from September to June, so you will continue to attend until you have achieved a pass.
You will be expected to complete an additional 3 hours of independent study each week.
We focus on teaching up to grade 5 (Foundation Tier). If you wish to study Higher tier grades to achieve a grade 6-9 then we will support you to do this in your own time, in addition to attending your class.
You will learn in an encouraging and supportive environment and gain confidence to progress to your next step in education or employment.
This course is for people who have not previously achieved a grade 9 - 4 (or A* - C) in GCSE Mathematics.
You will need to attend an assessment session prior to enrolling to make sure that this is the right course for you.
The GCSE mathematics course aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of concepts and techniques to provide a foundation of mathematical skills for further study. Through studying this course, you will become more confident in applying maths skills to solve problems and you will develop an understanding of the importance of maths in everyday life.
The subject content includes numbers, algebra, geometry, probability and statistics as well as ratios.
This is an adult course; you must be 19 before the 31st August 2026. You cannot have previously achieved a grade 4 or above (grade C or above) in GCSE Mathematics; please check your eligibility before applying.
You do not need to have any previous qualifications. The entry requirement for the course is the successful completion of an assessment (duration 1 hour). This will assess whether you have the necessary maths skills to enrol on the course.
- Material fee: £0
- Annual Tuition fee: £864
This qualification could be used to support your progress into further education and/or employment. Many employers require employees to have a grade 4 or above in mathematics. GCSE maths at grade 4 or higher is increasingly becoming a requirement for many higher-level courses, such as teaching, nursing, social work, sciences and engineering.
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to take an initial assessment and then be invited to enrol, or we will discuss alternative options for you.
