Launch Pad is our foundation learning provision, designed to help support you to gain the qualifications and skills you need to progress onto the next phase of your education. The course is 3 days per week, 9 - 4:15. Whilst with us you will work towards achieving your Functional Skills in maths and English. We deliver Entry 3 through to Level 2, which is the equivalent of GCSE Grade 4.
Alongside this you will have the opportunity to gain a Level 2 Certificate in Employability and a Level 2 Certificate in Creative Media. The idea being that you could leave us with 4 Level 2 Certificates, the equivalent for 4 GCSE's at Grade 4, giving you lots of new opportunities the following year.
Whilst here you will pick a minimum of one vocational area to work with to gain a Level 1 Certificate. Choices range from motor vehicle, to cookery and business to beauty.
Employability covers everything from interview skills to enterprise, and ensures your digital skills are up to speed and ready for the world of work. Creative industries focuses on music technology; looking at music sequencing and production techniques along with how the music industry works. Group size is 20 and the group has a designated keyworker who will look after your pastoral needs. Careers and applications for the next course are also covered.
With Functional Skills maths and English, the aim of the game is to work through those levels and leave us with a Level 2 pass in each subject.
When working in the vocational areas it is your chance to get a feel for what you might want to do the following year, a try before you buy.
You will need to attend a welcome event and demonstrate why you feel Launch Pad is the right course for you.
Following a year on Launch Pad you will be able to progress on to a Level 1 or Level 2 Vocational course.
We will work with you to identify your own progression route into the sector of your interest. You will receive 1:1 careers support looking at current grades, what you can leave Launchpad with, and what courses you have available to you afterwards as progression routes.
Apply online via the College website, or if your school uses the Positive Steps @16 (PS16) application system please apply through this and speak to your careers advisor if you are unsure. You will need details of any qualifications you are studying with any predicted grades. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a Welcome Event at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
