This course forms the second year of the programme following on from Business Enterprise (Peter Jones Academy) BTEC National Diploma level 3, continuing to support your development of enterprise skills in setting up and running your own business.
If you are aged 16 to 18, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above.
You will take part in activities that help you to develop your personal skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career.
If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities.
For other age groups, activities will be tailored to your needs.
You will build on the key elements of running your own business learnt in year one and develop a wider understanding through the following areas:
1. organising business events
2. career development
3. social enterprises
4. relationship marketing (buddying up with year one students when required)
You will continue to have access to guest speakers, enterprise activities and trips, building on your leadership and communication skills gained in the first year. By the end of the two years, you will have built a strong portfolio of enterprise, engagement and interpersonal skills ideal for university, employment or apprenticeships.
Ideally, you will need an overall Merit grade from the first year of your course, a GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above and a reference stating that you have had 90% attendance.
- Material fee: £40
- Residential fee: £80
- Annual Tuition fee: £4029
During the academic year you may be given the opportunity to go on trips. These are currently on hold due to COVID19, however, if they are able to go ahead then students will be requested to pay any trip fees prior to the trip taking place.
By the end of the two years, you will have built a strong portfolio of enterprise engagement and interpersonal skills ideal for university, employment or apprenticeships. Therefore upon successful completion of the course, you could either set up or continue to run your own business or apply through UCAS for a range of university courses. Options in the business department at Leicester College include the Higher National Diploma in Business Management or the Foundation Degree in Tourism and Events Management. Alternatively, you may decide to apply for a higher level of apprenticeship or enter employment.
Apply online via the College website, or if your school uses the Positive Steps @16 (PS16) application system please apply through this and speak to your careers advisor if you are unsure. You will need details of your qualifications and employment history, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a Welcome Event at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
