This is an intensive, fast-paced course for adults (19+) to achieve a mathematics level 1 or 2 qualification in 2 weeks. Running daily from 29th June to 10th July, 9.30am to 3.00pm each day, the end exam will be on Friday 10th July 2026.
You must be available to attend all sessions on time and complete work independently.
Functional skills are practical and applied skills in mathematics that allow you to work confidently, effectively, and independently at home and at work. It is a recognised qualification by colleges and employers.
This course is designed for individuals who already have very strong underpinning mathematics skills very close to either level 1 or level 2 but may require the development of their ability to apply those skills and techniques effectively to secure an accredited qualification.
Functional skills in maths at level 1 and level 2 are designed to develop your ability to represent situations using mathematics, analyse calculations, solve problems, and interpret mathematics to explain situations.
These qualifications allow you to demonstrate a sound grasp of the underpinning skills and basics of mathematical skills appropriate to the level, and apply mathematical thinking to solve simple problems in familiar situations.
You must have strong underpinning skills at either level 1 or level 2 but require the development of your functional skills. You must be able to attend every day of teaching and be available for the exam date. You must also be able to work independently for up to 3 hours per day during the course.
You must be 19 or over on 31 August 2025, and not already hold an equivalent qualification.
Course placement will be dependent on an initial assessment. You may be signposted to a more suitable course on completion of your assessment.
This course requires full attendance.
This course could lead onto GCSE Mathematics or level 2 Functional Skills.
Achieving a Functional Skills mathematics level 2 qualification will increase your opportunities to apply for a range of jobs and further courses. GCSE mathematics level 4 is increasingly becoming a requirement for many higher level courses, such as teaching, social work and nursing. Developing your underpinning mathematics and problem solving skills will also benefit you in any further study as well as at work and in your everyday life.
Apply online and you will be invited in for an initial assessment. Once you have taken this you will either be offered a place on this course or signposted to a course which is more suitable to your level.
