This course runs from St Margaret's Campus, each Wednesday, 12:30 - 3 pm for 8 weeks, starting on 12 February and ending on 9 April 2025. This is a tutor-led improver's course. You will build on the skills from the beginner’s course to make a variety of soft furnishings. This will include a pair of curtains and a Roman blind with the maximum measurements of: Curtains - finished width 1.5m x finished drop 1m Roman blind - finished width 1m x finished drop 1.5m
During this course, you will learn: Health and safety, safe working practice regulations. How to measure and calculate for window dressings. About different curtain linings and their use. How to create a small Roman blind or a small pair of pinch-pleat curtains. Specify the dimensions. Create a hand-finished curtain sample using various pleating styles. How to create a piped and zipped cushion cover.
This course is suitable for those who have completed an Introduction to Soft Furnishings - Curtains, Cushions and Blinds course or have some previous experience in making these before. You must be aged 19+ and be able to complete a short workbook on a weekly basis with the help of your tutor.
There are no formal assessments, exams or coursework. Your tutor will informally assess your progress each week. You will receive a certificate of course completion based on your progress in class and attendance.
- Annual Tuition fee: £90
The cost of the course is £80.00. However, you will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you receive one of the following benefits: - Universal Credit - JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group) There will be no fees if you earn less than £25,000.
You can only complete this course once. Upon completion of this course, you may progress onto one of the other short courses or an accredited course within the Leicester College Art and Design department. Your tutor will advise and discuss the various progression routes available to you. You can also access the College Careers Team to support your progression.
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required or sent a conditional offer according to the course's entry requirements. You will then be invited to enrol for your chosen course.
